They don’t mix.
Jesus answered, "My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting…" (John 18:36)
Jesus’ kingdom is different from earthly kingdoms. His is eternal. His will break up and destroy our kingdoms. And yet, his subjects do not fight like earthly kingdoms’ subjects fight.
"And in the days of those kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that shall never be destroyed, nor shall the kingdom be left to another people. It shall break in pieces all these kingdoms and bring them to an end, and it shall stand forever," (Daniel 2:44)
Whatever claim to Christian influences at the outset, you cannot make a nation Christian. God makes individuals Christians, granting new birth and unconditional eternal life to any and all who respond favorably to the Calvary work of His Son. He has not done it by people group or according to nations’ boundaries.
"But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ," (Philippians 3:20)
We are citizens of a higher country, bound by rules from a higher authority, subject to universal truth, committed to the Good News of THE kingdom which is to be demonstrated and made as accessible as possible to every human being… with utter impartiality and in Christian love.
There is only one human activity that accrues eternal significance. Carpet bombing the bad guys doesn’t do it. Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ does. Living it as well as speaking it does. Sacrificing ourselves in this noble cause does. Exemplifying Jesus’ offer and practice of true forgiveness does.
We are the custodians of the only message on the planet that offers love, acceptance, peace, forgiveness, unity, respect, hope and... eternity in the presence of God.
Which kingdom has your allegiance? Whose kingdom do you work for?
"proclaiming the kingdom of God and teaching about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance." (Acts 28:31)
